Frickin Good Life Book Club 2019

Frickin Good Life Book Club 2019

It seems inevitable that this was going to happen. After all, I’ve written not one, but two blogs about books and reading recently (you can read them here and here). Actually, if you count the blog I wrote about cookbooks that would be three.

I guess you could say that I have thing for books.

And I guess you could also say that it’s a rediscovered passion. While I spent my childhood devouring every book that was put in front of me, up until last year the last several years the only time I read anything that was not directly “career related” was over my Christmas vacation.  Not good.

Then last year, I started reading again.  I went back and started reading the entire Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey in timeline order.  And I rediscovered how the fanciful characters and stories could take me away and help me relax. I was hooked.

Try a New Workout

Try a New Workout

Have you fallen out of love? Or maybe you never were in love to begin with.  Or… perhaps you don’t even believe falling in love is possible for you…

Yes, I’m talking about your workouts.  Whether you’re an old pro, or you’re new to this whole “fitness thing,” you may have realized it’s time to try something new.

My thoughts on this? Go for it!  Seriously. Do it. Try SEVERAL somethings new. And not only that, try at least ONE thing that is out of your normal comfort zone.

I get that this can be hard, especially when working out hasn’t ever been a thing for you. And it could be hard for other reasons too. Maybe you’re scared. Maybe you’re afraid to fail. Or maybe, you just don’t know how to start.

My recommendation? Start by pausing.

My Favorite Things #2

My Favorite Things #2

Happy New Year!

Two years ago, after prompting from some of my clients, I rewrote the lyrics of “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music. They requested that I include my favorite health and fitness items and brands, as well as a few random things about me. The musical theatre girl in me couldn’t stop thinking about the request, and the first version of “Erin’s Favorite Things” was born. To top it off, I used the lyrics to inspire my client Christmas gifts that year… and it was FRICKin amazing (if I do say so myself).

Last years’ Christmas was all about relaxation, but as awesome as that was I still have clients who talk about my favorites. So I thought why not do a part 2?

Healthy Living Book List

Healthy Living Book List

’ve always loved books, but you knew that, right?  As a true lover of reading books to escape reality, I never expected to come to love personal development and non-fiction books at all, let alone as much as I do.

So, by popular request, I’ve started curating a “reading list” for those of you who may be interested in dipping your toe into the health/fitness/personal development book realm… or, maybe you just want a book that reminds you that live isn’t all Pinterest Perfect or Instagram Impeccable!

These are all books I’ve either read, with an exception of a few which are on my “to-read” list.  All of these books are available via audiobook (♫), which is probably my favorite way to devour these types of books.  If you’ve never listened to an audiobook, give it a try and thank me later… you’re welcome.

Cookbooks

Cookbooks

So here’s how I feel about cookbooks… I love them

Yes, I realize the internet has kinda become a big deal.  And yes, I realize that I can look up recipes on the internet.  However, there’s something about a book…

Maybe it’s because I love books so much.  Or maybe it’s because most blogs have waaaayyy too many words and pictures to scroll through before you can actually get to the recipe (I try not to do that since it annoys me so much).  Or maybe I’m just weird (I never said I wasn’t), but it’s true. I do love a good cookbook.

Note the word “good”.

Yes, I have thoughts about what makes a good cookbook.  Big surprise, huh?

Snow Day Body Weight Workouts

Snow Day Body Weight Workouts

SNOW DAY!!!  YAY!!!!!???

So a couple weeks ago we had the first snow day of the year and the gym was a ghost town.  My clients were dropping like flies because they were snowed in (or realized they had a great excuse… JK, I know you try), and immediately, two thoughts went through my head.

  1. Just because there is snow, doesn’t mean you should miss a workout!

  2. Some of them have kids at home, and they’re probably going to be insane!

Now, since that day was the first snow day of the year, I wasn’t super worried.  I was confident that the kids would want to play in the snow (since the first snow is always pretty and not gross, mushy February snow), and my clients would realize that shoveling the driveway and sidewalk is a great workout (hint hint!).

However, now that it’s later in the year that may not be the case.  The weather may not be nice enough to get outside and play (work) in the snow, or maybe you live in a condo or apartment complex so you don’t *get* to shovel your own drive!

No worries!  I got you!

Here are TWO of my favorite super quick workouts that you can do at home, easy-peasy lemon-squeezy!  They’re short, but they’ll get your heart rate up and make you use your body weight for some simple strength work as well.  Bonus!

#1 Easy Hostess Trick

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

In honor of the Holi-DAY (not week or month… day.), it only seems appropriate for me to share with you my #1 trick to hosting any kind of get together.  Trust me, this little trick is a breeze for you to pull off, I’ve had more compliments by using this trick than with any other things that I’ve done.

“So, Erin.  What is it? Stop teasing me and get to the point already!”

Okay, okay.  It’s charcuterie.  Seriously.

I'll be honest there are a few thing that m
