I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; all the cool people listen to podcasts.

Adult Holiday Beverages

Adult Holiday Beverages

Spiked cocoas, coffees, and holiday cocktails.

When it comes to cocktails, the Holidays are bursting with drinks that seem synonymous with the season. (Wassail, spiked eggnog, or champagne anyone?)  However, anymore it seems that if you put the word cranberry, peppermint or some kind of holiday-ish word such a mistletoe or Santa (Santa Clausmopolitan… really?) in front of the name, it immediately classifies as a holiday beverage… and I’m not even going to touch that.

Now don’t worry, I’m not about to tell you that as a person living a healthy lifestyle over the holidays you have to forgo your favorite drinks.  What I DO want to go over is the cocktails and beverages that you are actually likely to encounter throughout the season, or may even be embedded in some of your holiday traditions.

Are Non-Alcoholic Holiday Beverages Healthier?

Are Non-Alcoholic Holiday Beverages Healthier?

True or False? Non-alcoholic Holiday beverages are healthier than alcoholic holiday beverages.

Trick question (sorry!). The answer is, it depends. What’s beverages are we talking about, and what’s your personal measurement of “healthy?”

During the holidays it’s easy to convince ourselves that non-alcoholic beverages are better for us because, well, they don’t have alcohol.  While that may be true, the hard fact is that even without the added impact of alcohol, some of the most popular holiday drinks are just as calorie-dense and laden with undesirable substances as your favorite cocktail.

Hot Tea... You make my Heart Sing

Hot Tea... You make my Heart Sing

The weather is cooling down and fall weather is finally here (at least a couple days a week!).  Which means… it’s tea season. In my personal opinion there is nothing quite like a hot cup of tea during the cool weather, and especially the winter. I particularly love it in the evening.  There’s nothing quite like relaxing with your hands wrapped around your favorite mug to end the day.  But I’ll be honest, I’ll drink it all day long on a really cold wintery day.  I actually have quite the collection of teas in my cabinets because different times of day call for different teas… obviously ;)  But in actuality, I’m sensitive to caffeine, so different times of the day really does call for different teas!

No Fear Halloween

No Fear Halloween

Tootsie Rolls, Twix, Snickers, Milk Duds, and Milky Ways.  Starbursts, Skittles, Twizzlers, and Jolly Ranchers. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Butterfingers, and Candy Corn.

It’s Halloween, so we eat it. And unfortunately we eat it all. Why? Because it’s there. Staring us at the face. Taunting us. Teasing us. Calling to us.  Or, one of my client’s so “delicately” put it.  It’s making us angry. Either angry because we’re eating it, or angry because we “can’t” eat it.

Love Yourself, Even When It's Hard

Love Yourself, Even When It's Hard

The voice in our heads is lying.  You know, that voice that tells you that you’re not enough.

  • Not pretty enough

  • Not thin enough

  • Not nice enough

  • Not smart enough

  • Not, well, you get the idea

Perhaps most of the time that little voice stays quiet and in the back of our heads; until something triggers it and we have to remind ourselves that we ARE enough.

Here are a just a few of my favorite affirming and loving quotes for those days when you (and I) need to be reminded of the amazing and wonderful people that we are.

Learn to Love your Workout Routine

Learn to Love your Workout Routine

11 years ago I hated anything to do with fitness.

  • 9 years ago I would only workout in the privacy of my own home (so no one would see)

  • 8 years ago I got certified to teach TurboKick... But never planned to teach.

  • 6 years ago I taught my first TurboKick class.

  • 4 years ago I surprised myself that I not only had learned to enjoy fitness, but I was okay with early morning workouts.

  • 4 years ago I “found” my soulmate workout in PiYo, and immediately got certified to teach.

  • 3.5 years ago someone convinced me I would be a good personal trainer, and after some initial persuasion, (hesitantly) I jumped.

  • This morning I woke up excited to start a new and (always) challenging day of helping people change their lives.

  • This morning, instead of convincing myself to workout I have to convince myself to skip or heavily modify my workout to allow my body to recover from my injury last week (Big toe injuries are the worst!)
