19 for 2019 Goal Check-In

19 for 2019 Goal Check-In

So here we are.  Halfway through April, which is honestly absolutely bonkers. How the heck did that happen? I’m not entirely sure, but it did happen, and here we are.

A couple weeks ago, I started reflecting on my decision to give my money away in January to participate in the Happiness Project with Gretchen Rubin. I talked about what’s been working for me, what hasn’t, and what I’ve been learning in the process.

As a whole, it’s been pretty good. March was hard since I couldn’t do much “outer order” work since we’re still working on the house. However, I was able to really focus on some specific items such as my make-up and bag and my email account that I don’t know that I would have gotten to if I was able to do the rest of the house. I’m looking forward to putting the whole house back into “outer order,” but unfortunately, that’s still going to be a while.

In the process of reflecting, I realized that I hadn’t given much thought to my 19 for 2019 goals, so I decided I would pull them out to start working on them. Which I then promptly forgot to do… until now.  I know you never do things like that, so forgive me, I can be easily distracted.

Weight Loss vs. Body Fat Loss

Weight Loss vs. Body Fat Loss

So the other day while I was in the locker room between clients I overheard a conversation that made me sad and mad at the same time.

Girl 1: I’m just so frustrated. After all the work that I’ve put in; all the time and effort, and I’m a half a pound from where I started.

Girl 2: (timidly) Yeah. When I started strength training it was kinda frustrating too. So I’ve found if you just pay attention to how your clothes fit instead of your weight…

Girl 1: (bruskly) Yeah, I don’t like that. That doesn’t matter.

Back to School and Back on Track

Back to School and Back on Track

I don't know about you, but summer just kind of "happened" to me.  There’s really no other way to describe the last 3 months other than that.  I’m not entirely sure how they happened, but they did.  75% of the time I didn’t know what day it was, and imagine my shock when I realized that it’s already the end of August.  AUGUST FRIENDS, August.  What the what?!?

Unfortunately, when things like this just happen, that usually means schedule and routine are off. And when routines get off for whatever reason (whether it be summer, an injury, a celebration, or a sorrow) one of the easiest things to let slide is how we take care of ourselves; especially in the health and fitness category.

Take Back your Time this Holiday Season

Take Back your Time this Holiday Season

Please pardon this emergency interruption of your regularly scheduled blog reading… but have you realized what time of year it is?!?

That’s right. For the bajillions of people around the word (rough estimate) who celebrate the “Holiday Season,” it’s here. It’s Holiday time.  You probably noticed the inflatable snowmen, wreathes, and gingerbread house kits that have been showing up on store shelves for about 3 weeks now. Or maybe you’ve noticed all the Turkey themed projects and toilet paper roll pilgrims on your Facebook news feed (or maybe that’s just me?).

Whole30 Accountability Group

Whole30 Accountability Group

WOWZA!  That's all I have to say about the response to my post at the end of June asking, "Are you on the Wrong Diet?". Honestly, I would have addressed this sooner, but... well, summer.  And life. So needless to say, I'm just getting around to addressing it now.

First- I'm ecstatic that so many of you not only read what I had to say, but took it to heart. Since then, I've had several people tell me about their results with one of the diets I mentioned in that post.

Is the Elliptical Making you Fat?

Is the Elliptical Making you Fat?

If I had a nickel for every time throughout the day I looked over at the elliptical machines in my gym and saw someone staring blankly ahead at the TV monitor mindlessly going through their workout, I would quickly become a very, very, affluent personal trainer.  Now, I probably need to back up a minute and clarify, this is not just an elliptical problem.  I’m also not saying there’s not a time or place for every type of movement (any movement is better than no movement!). The problem with what most people are doing on the elliptical is that they’re just “phoning it in.” Add to that what happens after this workout has occurred, and you’ve started creating what can possibly turn into a major problem.
