Margarita
/In honor of the upcoming festivities of Cinco de Mayo, today’s “happy hour” features the drink of the moment:
The Margarita.
Yeah, we all know that these lovely cocktails are calorie bombs and bloating just waiting to happen. But did you know your biggest caloric enemy in the margarita is the prepackaged margarita mix? There are "light" mix versions available, but their taste is less than extraordinary and the way I see it, is if you’re going to splurge ENJOY your splurge! Instead of opting for the premade mix, take a few extra minutes and make your own. It’s well worth it. Oh, and while we’re at it, skipping the salt will help with that bloat.
1- ½ oz. lime juice (1- ½ limes…ish)
1 oz. orange juice (a little less than half a medium orange… ish)
1 tsp agave nectar
1.5 oz. silver tequila
Ice
Salt (optional, to taste)
Directions: Mix juices, and agave nectar. Add tequila and triple sec, then pour over ice (or if you must, put in blender with ice). Add salt to taste. Sip while looking amazing in your swimsuit, pretending you're on a beach in Mexico.
So I’m not going to lie to you, this drink still isn’t “good” for you, don’t lie to yourself thinking it is. However, if you’re going to drink margaritas, at less than half the calories, it’s a better option. Doesn’t mean you should go crazy and drink tons of them, but… if you do, I won’t judge. Just ask yourself if your decisions align with your goals, and remember in all things moderation.
